a town of Spain, in the province of Estremadura. It is 5 miles from Segura-de-Leon, and contains 2920 inhabitants. It is situated in a territory so rugged, that to a distance of 20 miles there is no road for wheeled vehicles. In the vicinity great numbers of pigs are reared, and pork is exported in large quantities. The annual produce of oil is about 20 tons, of wheat 4000 bushels, and of rye 1000. The principal industry of the inhabitants is in the tending of the herds and flocks of the Sierra de Aracena. There is one silver mine in the neighbourhood.
