a post-town in Philadelphia county, state of Pennsylvania, North America, on the Germantown branch railroad, 6 miles N.W. of Philadelphia. It consists of one broad street, 4 miles in length, with several others crossing it at right angles. Many of the upper classes of Philadelphia have country seats here, some of which are of great beauty and elegance. Pop. (1853) about 7000.
