a river of Hindustan, so named from its winding course, having its source in the British district of Shahjehanpore, whence it flows in a S.E. direction through the province of Oude, and passes by the city of Lucknow, where it is navigable, and crossed by a bridge of stone. From Lucknow the river continues in a south-easterly direction, passing the towns of Sultanpore and Jompore, and after a total course of 480 miles, during which it receives the waters of several tributary streams, it falls into the Ganges in N. Lat. 25. 29., E. Long. 83. 15.
