(formerly Villa Boa), a town of Brazil, capital of a cognominial province, and situated on the Vermelho, an affluent of the Araguay, 680 miles N.W. of Rio de Janeiro, being almost in the very centre of the empire. It contains the governor's palace, seven churches, and some other public buildings. Pop. about 7000. The province of Goyaz has an estimated area of 320,000 square miles, and a population of 100,000.
