a market-town of Ireland, county of Longford, 65 miles W.N.W. of Dublin. It has a parish church, a Roman Catholic chapel, dispensary, market-house, barracks, and union workhouse. Near the town is the Mote of Granard, an artificial mound, with vestiges of an encampment. Pop. (1851) 1805, besides 1855 in workhouse.
