(Great Island), the largest island in the Gulf of Carpentaria, North Australia; in S. Lat. 14°, E. Long. 136° 40'. It is of an irregular form, and is 45 miles in length from N. to S., with an average breadth of 30 miles. It is generally barren and unproductive on the coast; but towards the interior is covered with wood.
