a town of Spain, New Castile, 100 miles S.W. of Toledo. It is situated on the southern slope of Monte Altamira. The monastery of Jeronimo, which is in the centre of the town, was formerly the Loretto of Central Spain, and still contains many valuable works of art. Pop. 4000.
