a walled town of Prussia, capital of a cognominal circle in the government of Frankfurt, and province of Brandenburg, on the Neisse, which is here navigable, and on the Berlin-Breslau railway, 27 miles S.S.E. of Frankfurt. It is the seat of the courts of justice for the circle, and of a board of horticulture; and has a gymnasium, a public library, and manufactures of woollen cloth, linen, hosiery, leather, &c. It carries on a considerable trade in cattle, wool, and agricultural produce. Pop. (1849) 11,448.
