(sacred writings), a term applied to designate those books of Scripture, which, according to the Jewish classification, held the lowest rank in regard to inspiration. These are the books of Ruth, Psalms, Job, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, Song of Solomon, Lamentations, Daniel, Esther, Ezra, and Chronicles. This is the common order, but not universally followed. There are few if any traces of this division till after the Christian era.
