a town of Holland, province of Guelderland, on the Zuyder Zee, 30 miles E. of Amsterdam. It is fortified on the land side, and has a barrack, a Calvinistic and a Roman Catholic church, two orphan asylums, and a gymnasium. The inhabitants are chiefly engaged in fishing and in the corn trade. Pop. 4400.
