HASTA

Volume 11 · 56 words · 1860 Edition

Hasta Purā, among medallists, a headless spear, or rather a long kind of sceptre, occasionally given to all the heathen deities. The hasta purā is supposed to be a symbol of the goodness of the gods, and of the conduct of providence, which is equally mild and forcible.
