a small market-town of North Wales, Flintshire, 12 miles W.N.W. of Chester. It consists of little more than one street, about half a mile in length. The collieries, potteries, and iron-works in the vicinity afford employment to the inhabitants. Hawarden Castle is a handsome modern edifice, with an extensive park, in which are the ruins of the ancient castle, supposed to have been built by the Britons. Pop. of parish, which is extensive (1851), 6203.
