(*Ephos Mercury*, and *Ασπρόδεια Venus*), a term applied to a human being possessed of the characteristic organs of both sexes. In the human subject, one or other of the organs is rudimentary. Amongst the *invertebrata* hermaphroditism is a reality, and occurs most frequently in the mollusca and radiata. In vegetable life it is the normal condition. A flower is termed hermaphrodite when it contains stamens and pistils within the same calyx and petals. See Botany.
