the capital of the above lan, stands on the W. side of the island of Hernön, at the mouth of the Angerman River, but connected with the mainland by a bridge. It is the see of a bishop, and has a gymnasium, library, public baths, and building docks. The harbour is excellent, and a considerable trade is carried on. Pop. about 2200.
