a town of Hindustan, in the territory of Gwalior. The district of which it is the capital has been placed under British management by the provisions of the treaty of Gwalior concluded in 1844; its revenues being appropriated to the maintenance of the Gwalior contingent, a native force commanded by British officers. The town is fortified, and stands on the left or S. bank of the Nerbudda.
