a title conferred on the younger sons of earls, and on all the children of viscounts and barons. It is also conferred on persons holding certain situations of trust and dignity, such as the maids of honour to the Queen, &c., and to members of certain public bodies, as the House of Commons, East India Company, &c. The title of Right Honourable is given to all peers and peeresses of the United Kingdom; to the eldest sons and all the daughters of peers above the rank of viscount; to all privy councillors; and to various civic functionaries in the different capitals of the kingdom.
