(the ancient Aqua Latia), a town of Spain, province of Barcelona, on the left bank of the Noya, 34 miles N.W. of Barcelona. The streets of the old town are narrow and irregular, but those of the new, or modern portion, are generally regular and spacious. Among the public buildings are an ancient Gothic church, a town-hall, two convents, a clerical college, hospital, cavalry barracks, and a small theatre. Igualada formerly ranked as one of the wealthiest and most industrious cities of Spain, but of late years it has greatly declined. Its manufactures, which are still very considerable, comprise cotton and woollen stuffs, leather, hats, fire-arms, &c. Pop. 10,095.
