in Law, is nearly the same in the crown office as that which in other courts is called a declaration. Informations are of two sorts; first, those which are partly at the suit of the king, and partly at that of a subject; and, secondly, such as are only in the name of the king. The former are usually brought on penal statutes, which inflict a penalty on the conviction of the offender. The latter are of two kinds—1st, those filed ex officio by the attorney-general; 2d, those at the citation of some private person.
