or CATALLO, a seaport town of European Turkey, in the S.E. of Macedonia, opposite the island of Thasos in the Ægean Sea. It is surrounded by walls, and is farther protected by a citadel. The harbour is small, but a considerable trade is carried on, cotton and tobacco being the chief exports. Kavala was the birth-place of Mehemet Ali, the late Pasha of Egypt. Pop. about 4000.
