or **GIENEHI** (*Carnopolis*), a town of Upper Egypt, on the N. bank of the Nile, nearly opposite the ruins of Denderah. It is the principal entrepot of the Arabian trade by way of Cosseir, and is one of the stations for the great pilgrim caravan from West and Central Africa. Passengers to and from India sometimes travel by the Nile, passing through Keneh instead of going by Suez. The place is celebrated for its manufacture of porous water-jars, &c., which are floated down the Nile in rafts.
