a small but ancient seaport-town of Caernarvonshire, South Wales, on the Gwendraeth-Vechan, 9 miles S. of Caernarvon. It has a fine old church and Norman castle, both partially in ruins; the latter overlooks the town from a rocky height on the W. of the river. The trade of the place is trifling. Pop. of parish 1648, chiefly employed in smelting iron and tin.
