(the ancient *Alingo*), a town and river-port of France, in the department of Gironde, on the left bank of the Garonne, 25 miles S.S.E. from Bordeaux; its chief manufactures are casks and leather, and its trade is in ship timber, brandy, and the white wines of the district. Pop. 3950.
