a town of Austria, in Styria, in the circle and 9 miles W.S.W. of Bruck, on the River Mur, 1670 feet above the sea-level; N. Lat. 47.23.36., E. Long. 15.0.25. It is surrounded by a wall with three gates, and has extensive barracks, and several elegant public buildings, as the town-house, deanery church, and theatre. Some trade is carried on, principally in coal, iron, and salt. A treaty of peace was signed here between France and Austria on the 18th of April 1797. Pop. 2500.
