a town of Spain, province of Jaen, on a plain near the right bank of the Guadalimar, and under the Sierra Morena, 23 miles N.N.E. of Jaen. It has long been celebrated for its mines of lead and copper, which are still very productive. Near it was won Scipio's great victory over Hannibal; and the chief fountain of the town is supposed to be of Roman origin. Pop. about 7000.
