a large and populous town of China, province of Shantung; on the Imperial Canal, at its junction with the Eu-ho River, about 200 miles S. of Pekin. A famous pagoda, nine storeys high, stands here, built of porphyry, granite, and varnished bricks, besides several temples, one of which contains a colossal idol of gold. A large trade is carried on here by means of the canal.
