an old walled town of Spain, province of Estremadura, 62 miles S.E. from Badajoz. The town is mean in appearance, and in a state of decay. Pop. 4990, chiefly engaged in agriculture. Near this, on 11th April 1812, Lord Combermere routed a French force under Drouet.
