a walled town of Spain, capital of the province of the same name, stands on the right bank of the Ebro, here crossed by a handsome stone bridge, 65 miles E. by N. from Burgos. It is a well-built town, having a number of churches, convents, and hospitals, a Jesuit college, theatre, and orphan asylum. The chief manufactures are leather, hats, soap, and brandy. Pop. 6843.
