a burgh of barony and seaport-town of Scotland, county of Banff, on the right bank of the Deveron, at its mouth, and connected with the town of Banff on the opposite bank by a stone bridge of seven arches. It has a town-hall, jail, an Established and a Free church, and an excellent harbour, by means of which a considerable coasting trade is carried on. It is included in the parliamentary burgh of Banff. Pop. (1851) 2527.
