Volume 14 · 106 words · 1860 Edition

or El-Mansourah, a town in Lower Egypt, and capital of a province of the same name, is situated on the right bank of the Damietta branch of the Nile, 34 miles S.W. of Damietta. It is one of the most considerable towns in the delta, and holds the sixth rank among the provincial towns in Egypt. The streets are narrow, and the houses are built chiefly of brick. It possesses a government cotton factory, a public school, and six mosques. There are no ancient ruins here or in the neighbourhood. Its principal manufactures are a sort of crape sail-cloth, and cotton and linen stuffs. (See Egypt.)
