a town in Saxony, circle of Zwickau, is situated at a height of 1880 feet above the level of the sea, 17 miles S.S.E. of Chemnitz, and 38 S.W. of Dresden. The town contains a church; two hospitals, one for orphans and one for miners; several other charitable institutions; besides an office for mines and a custom-house. It is famous for its mineral baths, and for mines of silver, iron, &c., which are worked to a great extent in the neighbourhood. The manufacture of lace and linen is also carried on here. Pop. 4895.
