a market-town of England, county of Gloucester, 13 miles E. of Bristol. The principal street is about a mile long; and the town consists chiefly of old buildings. There is a parish church, places of worship for Independents and Unitarians, an endowed school, and several almshouses. A considerable trade is carried on in malt. The market-day is Tuesday; and there are two annual fairs. Pop. 1648.
