a town of France, in the department of Vosges, on the Madon, 17 miles N.W. of Epinal. It is irregular and ill built, but is pleasantly situated, and adorned by several fountains. It has a civil tribunal and one of commerce, and a library containing 7000 volumes. The principal manufacture is that of musical instruments, for which the town is somewhat noted. In the town and neighbourhood are about 20 establishments, giving employment to more than 6000 hands, and producing annually upwards of a million of violins, guitars, organs, and other musical instruments. Lace-making, embroidery, and similar occupations are also extensively carried on, and afford employment to many females in the town and surrounding country. Mirecourt has a considerable trade in the produce of these manufactures, and in wines and cattle. Pop. (1851) 5443.
