a town of the Austrian dominions, in the Slavonian military frontier, on the left bank of the Save, 24 miles S.S.W. of Peterwardein. The town possesses a castle, several churches and schools, and is the headquarters of the Peterwardein regiment. It has also some Roman remains, and is supposed to occupy the site of the ancient Sirmium. Pop. 5500.
