a town of Sardinia, North Italy, is pleasantly situated on the slope of a hill, near the right bank of the Po, 5 miles S. of Turin. The town is entered by two gates. It possesses an ancient palace, two handsome churches, several convents, an elegant college, several schools, a town-hall, a theatre, and an hospital. Manufactures of earthenware, tiles, cabinet-work, and silk, are carried on; and the town has a considerable trade in cattle, for which there is a fair in October. Pop. 9129.
