a large bay on the S.W. coast of Cornwall, lying between two promontories,—Lizard Point on the E., and Land's End on the W. It is 18 miles wide, and runs 8 miles into the land; while its depth varies from 3 to 30 fathoms. The name is derived from St Michael's Mount, which is situated on its shore.
