a town of Siberia, in the Transbaikal territory, at the confluence of the Neretsa and the Shilka, 540 miles E. by S. of Irkutsk, and about 400 E.N.E. of Kiachta. It is wretchedly built of wood, and consists of an old and a new town, at some distance from each other. There are several churches; and some trade is carried on in furs. The district of Nertshinsk is rich in mines of gold, silver, and lead, in which a great number of men are employed. It also affords good pasturage. Pop. of the town (1851) 4993.
