a town of India, peninsula of Katwyar, province of Guzerat, 310 miles N.W. of Bombay. It stands on a creek indenting the S. shore of the Gulf of Cutch; and carries on a great trade, being the principal place of the district of Hallar, which is estimated to contain a population of 207,680. The town itself is nearly 4 miles in circuit, and is celebrated for its manufactures of fine cloth, as well as for the dyes given to that article. Copper ore has been discovered in a range of hills in the vicinity.
