a town of Naples, in the province of Calabria Ultra I., 4 miles E.S.E. of Palmi. It is the see of a bishop, and is supposed to occupy the site of the ancient Mamerium. It is chiefly remarkable, however, for the great earthquake which took place here in 1783, during which several houses in the town, and an olive grove in the neighbourhood, were engulfed. Pop. 8000.
