LE, a town of France, department of Morbihan, stands on the N. side of the island of Belle Isle. It is strongly fortified, and contains a citadel, which serves as a state prison. The harbour is good and safe; and there is a school of navigation. Some trade is carried on in fish. Pop. 4972.
