a town of Mecklenburg-Schwerin, on the left bank of the Elde, 21 miles S.E. of Schwerin. It contains a town-hall, churches, and schools. In the neighbourhood there are medicinal springs and bathing establishments. Weaving, distilling, and the making of tobacco, straw hats, &c., are carried on, as well as a considerable trade.
