an inlet of the Atlantic Ocean, on the borders of New Brunswick and the state of Maine. It extends into the land for the distance of 12 miles, and is about 6 miles broad at its mouth. It affords an excellent harbour for the largest vessels, and is never obstructed by ice. It contains several islands; and the waters abound in fish of various kinds.
