a town of Sicily, in the province of Caltanissetta, stands on an isolated hill, 18 miles N. of Terranova, and as far E.S.E. of Caltanissetta. It is the see of a bishop; and contains a cathedral and many other churches, several convents, a school, hospital, &c. Woollen cloth and caps are manufactured; and some trade is carried on in grain, oil, fruits, &c. Pop. 13,000.
