a town of Poland, in the government of Warsaw, forming a suburb of the capital, on the opposite or right bank of the Vistula. It was at one time strongly fortified; but having been stormed by the Russians in 1794, it was reduced to ruins. Since that time it has been rebuilt, and it now contains many good streets and squares. Pop. 7500.
