LUIGI**, an Italian painter, was born at Bologna in 1613, and studied his art under Guercino, Carlo Cignani, and his father Francesco. A lively and versatile disposition soon made him a man of accomplishment. He became an adept in history, architecture, and music. In painting especially he manifested his easy dexterity. Although employed for a great part of his life in working on the same canvas with his brother-in-law Franceschini, he always succeeded in giving a distinct embodiment to his happy and graceful conceptions. His beautiful landscapes and exquisite perspectives were interesting and important features in the pictures which the two painted at Bologna, Modena, Piacenza, Genoa, and Rome. Quaini died in 1717.
