or HESAROAD, a town of European Turkey, in Bulgaria, in a lofty position overlooking a ravine, on the Ak or White Lern, an affluent of the Danube, 215 miles N.W. of Constantinople. It is a place of considerable trade, standing at the junction of four main roads. Strong in its natural position, it is further defended by a dry ditch and palisade. The Turks were defeated here by the Russians in 1810. Pop. 16,000.
