(Flem. Rousselae), a town of Belgium, in the province of West Flanders, in the midst of beautiful meadows, on a small affluent of the Lys, 17 miles S. of Bruges. The streets are broad and regular, lined with good houses; and in the centre is a market-place, where stand the long ancient town-hall, with its tower and elegant spire, and the small plain church of St Michael. The college of the town is a fine edifice, and the other schools are numerous. The people are mostly employed in making and bleaching linen; and there are also tanneries, breweries, distilleries, soap-works, &c. There is an active trade in flax, linen, and cattle. Pop. 10,770.
