or SAID, a town of Syria, occupying the site of the ancient Sidon, on the Mediterranean, about 20 miles S. of Beyrouth. It stands partly on level ground, and partly on a slope; the streets are narrow, gloomy, and dirty. Mosques and bazaars are the principal buildings. Here is a harbour and an old castle. Silk is manufactured in the town. Pop. 8000. (See SIDON.)
