a village of Scotland, in the county and 2 miles N.E. of Perth, on the left bank of the Tay. It is neatly built, and inhabited chiefly by weavers. Scone palace, the seat of the Earl of Mansfield, is a modern castellated building, on the site of the ancient royal palace, where the Scottish monarchs were crowned. The celebrated stone, on which the ceremony used to be performed, is now in Westminster Abbey, and forms part of the coronation chair. Of the old abbey of Scone only a single aisle now remains.
