a petty state of India, under British protection, bounded on the N. and E. by Thibet, S.E. by Bhutan, S. by Darjeeling, and W. by Nepaul. It lies between N. Lat. 27. 5. and 28. 3.; E. Long. 88. 2. and 89. Length from north to south 66 miles, breadth, 52; area, 1670 square miles. The state is governed by a rajah, who has been in alliance with the British since 1814. The chief productions of the country are cattle and iron. The culture of the tea-plant has been introduced here by the British. Pop. 61,766.
