a town of European Russia, on a river of the same name, capital of a circle in the government and 60 miles S. of Minsk. It is large and well built, but chiefly of wood; and contains three castles, 15 churches, a convent, several schools, and benevolent institutions. A considerable trade is carried on. Pop. (1851), 5174.
